Climate change.

This week for reading we have gone down the topic of climate change and a natural anti climate change system called a sink. A sink is a natural system that can be in the forset all the way into the sea what it does is obsorb carbon which is  a element where you can find anywhere, in your clothing, in your shoes and even in your microwave. But too much carbon is bad, what happens is when factores burn fuels the smoke gets released in the air and whats in that smoke? Carbon. So when all the carbon gets realeased in the air it creates a layer with the air molecules and the layer of carbon and air can trap heat in and thats why the earth is heating up. But you may think ¨well we have sinks in the earth they can get all the carbon¨ but thats where your wrong, the sinks cant absorb as much carbon as there is being created. And there is still more being created so over time if we cant stop there will be a layer of carbon that cant go away so when the earth heats up most of the living organisms will die which is not good.

For our creates we have made our own ¨sink¨ and put some logos that can help our carbon footprint. We also made a protest poster. For our last one we had to put some conections together between the text and the poem we read to get the infomation we need.

Here are the creates

What do you wonder about climate change?

All saints and all souls

On Sep 1 and Sep 2 their are two special days, all saints and souls. I have made a create explaining them. They are both special days celebrated in the catholic church. All saints is a day to celebrate the saints and all souls is for the souls still trying to get to heaven.

Here is the create

Who is your favourite saint?

Super roller coaster!

This week we have 3 reading creates, we can pick from 5 options and for my first option I chose to do the roller coaster create. First we were asked to watch a video and read an artical of how roller coasters work and how they give you that thrill. I learnt about negitive and positive energy. Negitive energy is when you are being pressed back in your seat and you feel more heavy due to G forces and positive energy is when your being lifted out of your seat due to the thing your in slowing down.

For our create we were asked to design a rollercoaster and write down 5 questions someone should ask when designing a roller coaster. Here is my create

This create was fun to make and I learnt alot about what makes the thrill and how the consequences are to some people after riding a rollercoaster. I would like to do this again.

Have you been on a roller coaster and what one was it?

A new seat design. By me.

This week we have found out that standing is better than sitting. We have read an artical that proves it. It talks about some experiments they have done the first one they did was done on a bus driver that sat most of their shift and a bus conducter who would stand and walk around they found out that the bus conducter would have more energy through the day. The next one was done on people of ages 12-29. Over the course of 7 days they had accelerometers on everybody and their heart fitness would be tracked by running on a treadmill. After annalizing the treadmill info and the accelerometer info they found out that people that sat for most their day had lower heart fitness.

After finding out this info we designed our own chair here it is:

I found this fun I really gives your creativeness a time to be used. I would like it if we got to create somemore things like this.

What do you do more sit or stand up?

Champions of peace

For the last four weeks of Term 3 we were learning about ‘How we can be Champions of Peace’.

Firstly we learnt about the different symbols of peace. Some of these are, as dove, an olive branch, a broken rifle and more.

These symbols represent peace because, A dove represents peace because in the bible it has been used many times to represent, Peace with god, innocence and purity. An olive branch is a sign of peace due to its slow growth and it was never grown much in war. A broken rife symbolizes peace by people not wanting war.

You can find these symbols everywhere in the war as many of them are used in every country.

With these symbols in mind I created a Peace Artwork. My Peace Artwork represents peace because it shows two people holding an olive branch because they have made peace.

We also researched some real life champions of peace and wrote a short biography. I wrote about Pope Francis. I thought this person was a champion of peace because since the start of his role as pope and before Pope Francis has always promoted peace. When the war started he helped return Ukrainian children taken to Russia and urged Hungary not to make instant decisions of immigrants. He has also helped people change from a self centered personality to start thinking about the wellbeing of other people.

We also created a peace prayer book. I have attached my peace prayer book here.

Prayer book.

I enjoyed learning about peace because it helps us understand what peace is to other people.

I learnt about all the signs of peace and how they originated.

One way I plan on being a champion of peace is by following the teachings of God and always promoting peace.

If you had a choice of making one country peaceful what country would you choose and why?

Patern math.

This week for math we are starting to learn about paterns and symmetry. The first work shop we learnt about Translation, rotational symmetry and symmetry. We got given images and we have to find how many symmetry lines were in them. Then we would have to flip them and see if its the same. For our create we made a square out of 6 different shapes and 6 different colors then we just copy and past them around the google drawing.

Here is the create.

I realy liked making the squares and it would be fun to make other shapes. Over all this create was fun.

Have you made a design for somthing?

Reading prediction

For reading this week we are marking off a goal “Make predictions about a text and look for clues to confirm predictions”. The text I chose is called The sea devil, first we only take a look at the pictures then we make a prediction. Second we read a bit of the story to know more, if our first prediction is wrong we can make a new one after knowing some more. And last we read the whole story and then reflect on our prediction to see if we were right or if we were wrong.

Here is my DLO.

And here is the text I read The sea devil.

Do you make predictions in your books and do you get them right?

Poems

Over the first 2 weeks of the term we were learning about poems. The first poem we learnt about a limerick poem. A limerick poem is a short poem that is funny or silly the first 2 lines rhyme with each other, 3 and 4 dont rhyme with 1 and 2 so you make a new ryhme for them. The last line of a limerick rhymes with the first 2 lines. Here is my limerick poem.

There was an old bag found by an old rag

He traveld with his bag but the bag started to sag

When he would travel on the gravel

He would have to wagle

The old rags name was haggle.

The second poem we learnt of is a Bio poem. The bio poem it is a simple poem that is about a person, it follows a patern and doesnt have to rhyme. The first line is the name of the person the second is 4 adjectivs descibing their trates or what they look like. The third line is 2 things they enjoy. The fourth line is 3 things they love. The fifth line is 2 things they fear. The six line is somthing they wonder the seventh is somthing they wish, the eighth is somthing they dream of. the ninth is 2 emotions they have right now. And the tenth line is somthing they plan to do, if you want for the elevnth line you can do your own Idea.

Here are two Bio poems I did. The first one Is about me and the second one is about my freind.

Romeo

Kind, sporty, brown and green eyes

Hockey and basketball

family, gaming and reading

Getting a bad injury and Getting robbed

What happens after death?

To be sucsesful

Getting chased by zombies

Bored and happy

Getting a VR headset

Here is a Bio poem about Leo he has given me some stuff about him like his dreams and what he plans to do in the future.

Leo

Blonde, funny, sporty and crazy

Vr, Video games

Vr, freinds, laughing

Heights, large objects

How technology works

That he has a Vr

Having a Vr

Uncomfirtable, Happy

Play Vr

As you can see Leo thinks about Vr heasets A LOT because he is getting one.

The next poem is a list poem. You chose a topic you want to make into a list, instead if writing somthing down each line you want to make it into a sentance. It can be fun and it does not have to ryhme you can make them as long or as short as you want.

Here are my list peoms.

Hockey.

The ball flies overhead DUCK!

Sticks move with speed,

The Turf wet and bouncy,

The goal makes a loud CRACK from impact.

Spaghetti.

Wrap it around your fork,

Tangled and messy,

Lower your head to your fork,

The spaghetti falls off your fork.

That is the end of my poems. I have found writing and learning poems fun and would not mind learning more, I hope you have enjoyed reading my poems.

What peoms have you heard about and writen?

Science Experiment

At school we are doing science experiments we are working around energy we have learnt about renewable energy and non renewable energy. Renewable energy is energy that is natural and can be produced at a higher rate than it is consumed, some ways renewable energy is made are wind power, solar power, bioenergy (organic matter burned as a fuel) and hydroelectric. However non-renewable energy comes from sources that will eventually run out, such as oil and coal they are also worse for the environment.

For our science school bought a big kit of different science experiments, the experiments are around using energy to power a light bulb so far my favourite experiment was making a torch. My hypothesis was that the bulb will light up using tinfoil to transfer electricity to it. The materials we used to make a torch were

  • tape paper
  • a battery
  • wires
  • a bulb
  • tinfoil

When I started I thought, how would would 1 battery and two wires make a lightbulb light up? I started by using tape to attach the ends of the wires to the battery I taped them together. Then I tried to wrap tinfoil around the bulb and wires but it didn’t work, all it did was get hot but it did prove that I got the wires correct. Then I tried using the tape to securely hold the wires on the bulb, it lit up but only for 10 seconds, I did it.

In conclusion my hypothesis was wrong I had to use the tape to transfer electricity to the bulb.

Another experiment we did was using a battery, wires, clay and playdough we could make a light bulb connected by two metal strands light up. What you do is roll the play dough into 2 balls then get a big clump of clay and put it in between both of the playdough balls. Then you want to grab the battery and the wires and stick the wires into the playdough. Then you will grab the light bulb,  stick the two metal rods and put them into each ball. If it worked the bulb should light up.

What kinds of experiments have you done?

How fluent are you?

We have strated a test for ourselves to see how fluent we are. We do it on a google doc by using a tool called voice typing, we had a book on the other side of our screen. We did a minute of reading into our mic with the voice typing on, in theory it should type everything we say and if it writes something we didnt say it meant that we were not as fluent. All the words we got wrong we would highlight yellow, if I did 200 words and got 39 wrong it would be 161/200 and if you divided 161 by 200 it would be 0.80 and that is also 80% so that means I got 80% of words right.

Here are my tests of how fluent I was!

This create is fun seeing what you got wrong and got right and I would like to do it again. Next Time I would set the timer for a bit longer to get more words in.

How fluent do you think you are and have you done this test?
